Accessory maker Kensington at CES 2021 today announced its new docking station for the iPad and iPad Pro that expands the tablet’s connectivity options with additional ports for your convince. It also doubles as a multi device wireless charger with a pair of Qi charging pads for your iPhone and AirPods, plus an optional Apple Watch charger.
Powered itself by a 20V DC power adapter, the aptly named StudioDock accessory brings the following eight ports with your iPad or iPad Pro docked to it:
- 3x USB-A for data and power (5V/0.9A)
- 1x USB-C port for data and power (5V/3A or 9V/2A)
- 1x HDMI 2.0 port
- 1x UHS-II SD 4.0 card reader
- 1x Gigabit Ethernet
- 1x 3.5mm headphone jack
The tablet attaches magnetically to the dock. The entire setup appears to mimic a typical computer setup for a monitor-like productivity experience. The USB-C port charges your iPad at 37.5W, which is 108 percent faster than the tablet’s included 18W Apple charger. The wireless charging pad for the AirPods is rated at five watts of power. As for the 5W Apple Watch charger, that one will be available as an optional upgrade, sold separately, in mid-2021.
The dock can accommodate all iPad models thanks to its smart design, including the low-cost 10.9-inch iPad, iPad Air 4, 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. In fact, any tablet with USB-C connectivity should work with the accessory. As a cool bonus, your docked device can be rotated from portrait orientation to landscape, and vice versa, without taking it off the stand.
Kensington has not released any pricing or availability details for the StudioDock, but we’ll be making sure to update you when they do. For the time being, you can register your interest to receive updates on the Kensington website.
The StudioLock comes with a three-year warranty. Kensigton is a recipient of the CES 2021 Innovation Award in the computer peripherals and accessories category.
