Back in December of last year, Apple released iOS 12.5 to older iPhones and iPads. This software update brought with it exposure notifications to help track the spread of COVID-19. However, it turns out an issue cropped up for some of those devices.
Apple launched iOS 12.5 to bring contact tracing for COVID-19 to older iPhones and iPads in late 2020. The software was meant to help those who hadn’t upgraded to more recent hardware, and who hadn’t upgraded to more recent software, to still be able to take advantage of contact tracing. All in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Today, Apple released iOS 12.5.1, less than a month after releasing iOS 12.5 to the public. According to the release notes, Apple says this software update “fixes an issue where Exposure Notifications could incorrectly display logging profile language”. And that’s about it.

Here’s a list of the devices that iOS 12.5.1, which is available beginning today, is available for:
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPad Air
- Second-generation iPad mini
- Third-generation iPad mini
- Sixth-generation iPod touch
