Here’s Apple’s first Apple Watch activity challenge of the new year

The next Apple Watch workout challenge in the Activity app has been created to help you kick off 2021 in style, by performing workouts that will get you in shape.

To complete the fitness challenge, which was first reported by 9to5Mac, you’ll need to close all three Activity rings for seven days in a row. In other words, you will need to record at least a 30-minute exercise in the Workout app, achieve your personal active calorie goal and stand for at least one minute on at least twelve hours of the day. Doing so will earn you a badge in the Activity app and iMessage/FaceTime stickers for your devices, seen below.

Apple will send a notification to Apple Watch owners 24 hours before the challenge starts. “Start 2021 off right,” reads the notification. “This January, earn this award by closing all three rings for seven days in a row.” The new challenge runs from January 7 through January 31.

As you know, there are three rings in the Activity app: the red ring measures how many active calories you’ve burned for the day. The green ring shows you how many minutes of activity like a brisk walk or a full workout you’ve done on any given day. And lastly, the blue ring tells you the number of hours you’ve moved for at least one minute per hour.

Apple earlier this week released its new Fitness+ subscription service that motivates Apple Watch owners to get up and get moving with personalized workouts and videos.
