Adding extended AppleCare+ coverage to the $549 AirPods Max will set you back an extra $59.
Similar to other AirPods models and Beats headphones, the AirPods Max headphones come with one year of hardware repair coverage and up to 90 days of complimentary tech support, with optional AppleCare+ coverage getting you up to two years of technical support and accidental damage coverage for your over-ear headphones from the purchase date.
In addition to two years of repair or replacement coverage from Apple-authorized technicians, AppleCare+ for AirPods Max also gets you two incidents of accidental damage protection (not covered by Apple’s standard 1-year warranty) every twelve months. Each incident is subject to an additional service fee of $29 plus applicable tax. On top of that, AppleCare+ includes a free battery replacement service if the battery in your headphones retains less than eighty percent of its original capacity during the duration of the extended warranty period.
You can purchase AppleCare+ with your new headphones or get it within 60 days of your AirPods Max purchase. If you plan on getting AppleCare+ for AirPods Max after the purchase, you can do so online, at an Apple Store (inspection of your headphones and proof of purchase are required) or by calling 800-275-2273 (requires you to provide proof of purchase).
The headphones can be ordered today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app ahead of retail availability beginning December 15. They’re available in space gray, silver, sky blue, green and pink color finishes, and ship with an included Smart Case and a Lightning to USB-C cable.
