Accessory maker Satechi today unveiled two new products: a MagSafe-like wireless magnetic charger for the iPhone 12 models and the Magnetic Sticker, which enables support for the new Qi charger on the iPhone 11 models and iPhone 12 cases that are not MagSafe compatible.
Wireless Magnetic Charger
As the name suggests, the USB-C Magnetic Wireless Charging Cable takes advantage of strong built-in magnets designed to align with the magnets found in Apple’s latest iPhone 12 models to provide a solid grip while charging your smartphone. Not unlike Apple’s MagSafe, you simply place the back of your iPhone on top of the charger. The powerful magnets snap into place with a satisfying click, giving you peace of mind with a secure and fast charge.
It outputs 7.5 watts of wireless power for the latest iPhones, which is half the theoretical maximum charge speed of the MagSafe charger (Apple’s charger delivers up to 15 watts of power on the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max and 12 watts on the iPhone 12 mini). On the other hand, Apple’s magnetic charger has issues of its own related to charge speed and it ships without a USB-C Power Delivery power adapter so keep that in mind.
This Qi-certified charger sports a 5-foot cable and reversible USB-C connector so you can conveniently recharge anywhere. The thin, portable accessory is available in a Space Gray metallic finish and works with the latest iPhone 12 models without a case.
Magnetic Sticker
For older iPhones, Satechi provides the Magnetic Sticker, sold separately. This accessory attaches to the back of the phone, enabling magnetic support for the new Wireless Magnetic Charger on the iPhone 11 models and iPhone 12 cases that are not MagSafe compatible.
“Made with eco-leather for a modern touch, simply peel and stick to the back of the smartphone to take advantage of magnetic charging,” Satechi writes.
Pricing and availability
You can pre-order your Wireless Magnetic Charger or Magnetic Sticker from satechi.net starting today. The USB-C Wireless Magnetic Charger is available for pre-order for $29.99 while the Magnetic Sticker can be pre-ordered for $9.99. By comparison, the MagSafe charger is $39.
Both Satechi accessories will begin shipping on December 16.
