Apple welcomed the first beta of iOS 14.3 in November. Now, the company continues to move forward towards the public update with yet another beta.
On Wednesday, Apple seeded the third betas of iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 to developers. As is par for the course with prerelease software, things might be buggy. So while Apple will likely seed a corresponding public beta of the same software to the public beta testers out there, it probably still shouldn’t be installed on a daily driver.
However, for registered developers ready to try out the latest beta, the prerelease software can be installed as an over-the-air (OTA) update by opening Settings –> General –> Software Update and following the onscreen instructions. The proper configuration profile must be installed on the registered device(s).
As far as what’s new in this beta, that remains to be seen. However, we do know that the second beta of iOS 14.3 did add an important change. With this software, custom app icons will skip launching the Shortcuts app when activated. Instead, a banner will appear at the top of the screen informing the user what’s going on, and simply launch the intended app without having to go through the Shortcuts app first.
What’s more, the previous iOS 14.3 beta also welcomed support for Apple’s ProRAW format. While iOS 14.3 will be available for a variety of iPhones, this particular feature is only available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro lineup. With this, photographers will be able to take the RAW format of their photos and further customize the results.
In addition to the iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 betas, Apple also seeded the latest betas of watchOS 7.2 and tvOS 14.3 to developers as well. To update the Apple TV, developers can download the new software through the proper profile installed via Xcode. And to update the Apple Watch, the software can be downloaded via the Watch app. The Apple Watch must have at least 50% battery, be connected to the charger, and be within range and paired to the iPhone.
