Tranzlo makes it easy for jailbreakers to translate text in almost any iOS app

Being bilingual has its perks, but since not everyone has the luxury of knowing more than one language by heart, translation services often lend assistance to those wanting to know how to say something in another language. There’s just one problem: accessing said translation services can be cumbersome, often requiring the user to visit a website or switch to another app.

Here to help with the aforementioned dilemma is Tranzlo, a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer MiRO92 that aspires to make language translation much less of a chore on iPhones and iPads.

In a nutshell, Tranzlo is your always-on translation assistant. The tweak can help you translate messages to and from other people via your favorite social media or messaging apps. But even if you aren’t as much of a social media user, the good news is that Tranzlo integrates with iOS’ native Action Menu, allowing users to translate highlighted text from just about anywhere in iOS in a jiff.

For those wondering, Tranzlo uses Google Translate’s API to function. The tweak supports a host of apps right out of the box including WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, and Flex, to name a few, and the developer plans to support more apps by way of future updates, likely based on demand by user requests.

Some of the tweak’s key features include:

  • Automatically translate outgoing messages after tapping the Send button
  • Change translation settings by tapping and holding on the Send button
  • Easily translate incoming messages by tapping and holding on chat bubbles
  • Choose how translations appear before your eyes
  • Select a body of text and quickly translate it via an Action Menu button
  • Configure up to 10 different quick language translation buttons for text selections
  • And much more…

Once installed, Tranzlo adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Tranzlo on or off on demand
  • Configure text selection-centric options:
    • Enable or disable text selection translation on demand
    • Configure up to 10 different quick language translation buttons
    • Choose between Toast or Alert styling for translation results
  • Configure per-app options:
    • Enable or disable Tranzlo for each supported app individually
    • Toggle outgoing message translation on or off
    • Toggle a prompt to ask about translating before sending messages
    • Choose the language that you’ll use regularly before translation
    • Choose the result language that Tranzlo will translate to for the recipient’s reading pleasure
    • Toggle the translate option for incoming chat bubbles
    • Choose between Toast or Alert styling for translation results
    • Choose the language that the sender regularly uses before translation
    • Choose the result language that Tranzlo will translate to for your reading pleasure
  • Reset all settings to their defaults
  • Respring your device to save any changes you’ve made

Tranzlo will come in handy for anyone that regularly talks to friends who speak different languages. If you don’t have a need for such a thing, then it feels more like a novelty than anything, but it’s still a lot more convenient than opening a Google Translate window in Safari or using iOS’ native Translate app.

Those interested in giving Tranzlo a try can download the tweak for free from the MiRO92 repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 and 14 devices.
