Ekip brings tighter integration between your jailbroken iPhone and your Mac

AirDrop, iCloud, and a bevy of other services provided by Apple have helped to create a nearly seamless user experience for those owning both an iOS device and a Mac. But if you’ve ever wanted a tighter integration than what already exists, then you’d be S.O.L., at least… without the help of a jailbroken handset.

Fortunately for those who do have jailbroken handset(s) at their disposal, a newly released jailbreak tweak dubbed Ekip by iOS developer maximehip can upgrade the level of integration that users might come to expect while using their iPhone or iPad and their Mac in the same general vicinity.

With Ekip, jailbreakers need only install the tweak on their pwned iPhone or iPad and the dedicated Ekip app on their Mac to unlock deeper integration. Upon doing so, users will then be able to view their handset’s notifications on the Mac and remote control their handset’s Control Center toggles from the Mac, among other things.

In the screenshot example above, you’ll see that Ekip adds a new item to the Mac’s Menu Bar. After clicking on it, the user is presented with the same controls that they’d see on their iPhone or iPad via Control Center. Users may interact with those controls on their Mac and the settings will transfer to their iPhone or iPad in real time via an OpenSSH connection (OpenSSH must be installed on the jailbroken device for this to work).

As noted by the developer in the Ekip tweak depiction, the tweak is capable of interfacing with the following Control Center controls:

  • Airplane Mode
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Cellular Data
  • Low Power Mode
  • Rotation Lock
  • Respring
  • Ringer/Silent
  • Music Controls
  • Dark Mode
  • Location Services
  • And more…

Once installed, Ekip adds the following preference pane to the Settings app where the user can configure options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Ekip on or off on demand
  • Select the apps that won’t transmit missed notifications to the Mac with Ekip installed on it
  • Respring your device to save changes

To install the Mac app, tap on the dedicated button in the Settings app and then AirDrop the link to your Mac.

Those interested in going hands-on with Ekip can purchase the tweak for $1.49 from the Packix repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 devices and is a great way to enhance the interoperability between your Mac and your iPhone or iPad.
