YouTube updated with HDR support on the latest iPhone 12 lineup

YouTube for iOS has been updated on the App Store with support for high dynamic range (HDR) video content on the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

If you have YouTube for iOS version 15.45.2 or higher, you can enjoy HDR video content on the latest iPhone 12 devices. You must have an iPhone with an OLED-based display (iPhone X and lateR) to see the HDR option when browsing YouTube. Devices with LCD screens, like the ‌iPhone 11‌, the iPhone XR and iPads, don’t support HDR video in the YouTube app.

MacRumors explains:

To check to see if you are watching YouTube videos at their highest quality, you can simply press the three dots on the top right of the video, and you should see ‘HDR’ options listed on supported videos.

The mobile YouTube app has supported HDR video for some time now, but updates are required to support new hardware.

YouTube issued a similar update in May 2018 bringing HDR video support to the iPhone X.
