Apple Watch ECG, irregular heart rhythm notification coming to South Korea and Russia

Apple today made the announcement that its ECG and irregular heart rhythm notification features will become available to Apple Watch customers in South Korea with upcoming releases of iOS and watchOS software updates later this month.

Apple in May 2020 brought ECG and irregular heart rhythm notification to customers in Saudi Arabia via the watchOS 6.2.5 update. And now, customers in South Korea and Russia will get those features when the iOS 14.2 and watchOS 7 updates are publicly released in a few days. As noted by MacRumors, Meduza reports that both features will also launch in Russia with upcoming releases of the iOS 14.2 and watchOS 7.1 software updates.

The irregular heart rhythm notification is an optional feature that informs the user of possible signs of atrial fibrillation, which is the most common form of arrhythmia that, if left untreated, can lead to stroke, the second leading cause of death in the world.

Prior regulatory filings indicated that both features may also launch in Japan.

Available on the Apple Watch Series 4 onward, ECG uses the built-in electrical heart sensor to measure the electrical activity of your heart. All you need to do is rest a finger on the Digital Crown. Our dedicated tutorial shows you exactly how to make the most out of this feature.
