Apple launches a service program for AirPods Pro with sound issues

AirPods Pro

If you have AirPods Pro and you’ve experienced some sound issues, like crackling audio, you may be able to get it fixed by Apple at no cost.

Apple on Friday officially launched a new service program for the AirPods Pro. According to the company this covers various “sound issues” with the truly wireless headphones. Apple says affected headphones were manufactured before October 2020, and it’s only a “small percentage” of owners out in the wild.

The company notes that the AirPods Pro may experience one or more of the issues listed below:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

As is par for the course, if the issue is ruled within the service program’s eligibility parameters, the AirPods can be fixed at no additional cost to the owner. This means the left, the right, or both headphones can be repaired in this case. Apple, or Apple Authorized Service Providers, can handle your request.

And, in this case, repair means replace.

Apple also adds:

This worldwide Apple program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the AirPods Pro.

The program covers affected AirPods Pro for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

The new service program for the AirPods Pro is now live, so if you’ve had any issues like the ones listed above, you should get them checked out and (hopefully) repaired.
