Twitter launches a new Share Tweet menu, native Share Sheet available with a long-press

Following a few months of testing, the official Twitter app for the iPhone and iPad has now implemented a new Share Tweet popup menu for easier tweet sharing.

Available starting with version 8.37 of the official Twitter app for iOS and macOS, the feature facilitates quicker sharing by listing recently-used contacts and apps.

Similar to Apple’s own AirDrop sharing in iOS, the popup menu’s top row provides quick access to Twitter contacts that have recently been used in the app’s direct-messaging feature. The bottom row lists shortcuts to apps like WhatsApp and Gmail.

“Now available to everyone on iOS: the new Share Tweet menu that lets you share Tweets to other apps in fewer taps,” the company announced today. The same new feature is also available for Mac customers as an update to Twitter for macOS.

This menu is now Twitter’s preferred way of sharing tweets. However, it appears the feature is not without teething issues of its own, as noted by MacRumors:

The new Share Tweet definitely offers a more compact set of options than the native iOS Activity view, but users who have customized their Action extensions will note that it doesn’t provide the same customization options as the latter, and it doesn’t include AirDrop links either

For those wondering, you can still access iOS’s multi-purpose Share menu in the app by selecting the option “Share via…”. You can find the “Share via…” option at the end of options in the Share Tweet menu or by long-tapping Twitter’s Action button.

Twitter for iOS is available on the App Store.
