British carrier CEO says a new iPhone with 5G is just ‘days away’ from launch

Apple confirmed earlier this year that the iPhone 12 lineup would see a slight delay. And, indeed, we’re expecting to see the newest smartphone lineup arrive in October. But we may be just days away from a launch, according to one CEO.

As first reported by MacRumors today, Marc Allera, the Chief Executive Officer of British Telecom’s EE and BT wireless carriers, appeared in a video and hyped up the impending arrival of the iPhone 12. According to the report, Allera shared the video internally with company employees. In that video, the chief executive says, “We are just days away from Apple’s next major launch, a 5G iPhone, which will be a huge boost for 5G”.

Interestingly, Apple’s own services chief Eddy Cue made an appearance in the video. Cue didn’t confirm the “days away” part, but did praise EE for bundling so many Apple services with the consumer wireless plan. EE offers smartphone plans that bundle things like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+, so Cue showing up makes sense in a video like this.

This comment from Allera probably isn’t meant to be exact. While it’s technically possible Apple could announce new iPhones in September, that’s probably not going to happen. The company will more than likely host another virtual event to unveil the new iPhone lineup in early October.

When that happens, we’ll likely see four new models. The iPhone 12 is said to feature a 5.4-inch display, while another non-Pro model is said to boast a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 12 Pro will also feature a 6.1-inch screen according to the rumors. And finally, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is said to take advantage of a 6.7-inch screen. All of these models are said to feature not only OLED panels, but also 5G connectivity.
