Apple seeds first iOS and iPadOS 14.2, tvOS 14.2, and watchOS 7.1 betas to developers, adds Shazam music recognition feature in Control Center

The schedule is a bit funky, but Apple on Thursday seeded an upcoming update for the recently released iOS 14.

As we noted earlier today, Apple is apparently playing it fast-and-loose with version numbers right out of the gate. Today, Apple seeded the first betas of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 to developers. The latest pre-release software can be downloaded directly from the Apple Developer Center. And for devices with the proper configuration profile, the software can also be downloaded over-the-air.

As far as what’s new? Well, it looks like iOS 14.2 is going to welcome a brand new feature for the end user. Shazam, which Apple acquired years ago, now has a special place in Control Center for easier music recognition.

What’s more, Apple is adding a new feature for the media playback section in Control Center. Now, when music not actively being played, that section will show suggestions from Apple Music.

That appears to be it, as far as iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 is concerned.

It’s worth noting that Apple also seeded the first beta of watchOS 7.1 and tvOS 14.2 to developers today as well.
