Is Apple One a good deal? In this article we are going to be taking an in-depth look at the newly-announced bundle and its various tiers. Apple is pitching it as a good deal for users, so as iDB’s resident deals expert, I wanted to dive in and see if that was actually the case.
Before we get started, it’s important to know the different plans. Here are your 3 Apple One options:
- Individual includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage for $14.95 per month.
- Family includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 200GB of iCloud storage for $19.95 per month, and can be shared among up to six family members.
- Premier, where available, includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and 2TB of iCloud storage for $29.95 per month, and can be shared among up to six family members.
Is Apple One a good deal?
Individual plan – $15/month
Let’s start off with the Individual plan, which includes access to Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and 50GB of iCloud storage for [let’s call it] $15 per month. If we break out the prices of each individual service, we have $10 for Music, $5 for TV+, $5 for Arcade and $1 for 50GB of iCloud storage, for a total of $21.
- Savings: $6/month
- Verdict: it’s too bad Apple is so stingy with its iCloud storage space because I would’ve really liked to see 100GB or more here. The only way this plan counts as a deal is if you plan on using the 3 media services regularly and won’t need to share them with anyone.
Family plan – $20/month
The Family plan breaks down in essentially the same way, except that the 200GB of iCloud Storage is normally $3 a month and Apple Music Family is $15 per month. So we’ll just add $7 to the other services for a total of $28.
- Savings: $8/month
- Verdict: now this is more like it. Given that you can share access to these services with up to 6 people, this more than qualifies as a deal. Consider this: if you break it down per user (assuming 6), using individual service pricing, we are actually talking about a monthly savings closer to $100/month.
Premier plan – $30/month
The Premier plan adds in a few more services and more iCloud storage, so we’ll go over the individual (monthly) prices again: $15 for Music Family, $5 for TV+, $5 for Arcade, $10 for News+, $10 for Fitness+ and $10 for 2TB iCloud storage. That gives you a total of $55/month.
- Savings: $25/month
- Verdict: the $25 savings per month make this a no-brainer for folks who want to share their subscriptions and use all of the services. If you wind up not using News+ or Fitness+, I’d recommend just going back down to the Family plan unless you just absolutely need the additional storage. Otherwise, this Apple One tier is a good deal.
Apple One is a good deal, but like most bundles, it really depends on the services you are currently using and how many people are in your family. Not surprisingly, the most expensive plan is the one that offers the most savings, but do you really need all these services? Only you can answer this question. If the answer is no, then Apple One might not be a good deal for you.
