Chargeasap’s compact new 100W and 200W GaN chargers go live on Kickstarter

Today, a pair of compact GaN charger from Chargeasap went live on Kickstarter today.

Introducing Chargeasap Omega

The two tiny chargers, rated at 100W and 200W, can fast-charge four devices at the same via the USB-C Power Delivery protocol. The charger is housed within a minimalist fire-resistant polycarbonate enclosure.

The more powerful 200W edition files as the world’s first portable charger capable of quick charge a MacBook Pro, an iPad Pro, an iPhone and an additional device like your AirPods or Apple Watch, all at the same time. Or to put it another way, you can use a single 200W charger to power two 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks simultaneously, at full speed.

Their tiny footprint (the devices are smaller than a deck of playing cards) makes these chargers ideal for offices, travelling or for those where space is restricted.

For instance, the 100W version measures 60ww wide, 55mm tall and 26mm deep. Its more powerful 200W version is 88mm wide, 55mm tall and just 42mm deep. Overall, these things are 66 percent smaller than traditional chargers.

Chargeasap explains:

The Omega 200W includes Chargeasap’s patent-pending 2-way foldable prongs, helping to cut down on clutter and cords which can be adjusted at a 90 or 180-degree angle. This lets users fit the Omega charger into any tough to fit wall plug whether floor or wall.

Again, this marks the first portable charger capable of outputting 200W.

Versatile fast-charge support

The USB-A ports found on the Omega chargers support a variety of fast-charge protocols up to 22.5W, including Quick Charge 3.0, AFC, VOOC, SCP, FCP and other major protocols used by brands like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus.

Taking a look under the hood, the chargers feature some densely packed circuit boards. The logic board is surrounded by high-density thin heat sinks to help with heat dissipation. A graphene ribbon sheet wrapped around components aids in cooling.

Both accessories support 100V-240V worldwide universal voltage and come with three plug converters (AU/EU/UK) letting you use them in 200+ countries worldwide.

Who are Chargeasap?

Chargeasap is a Sydney, Australia-based electronics startup that has already created some praiseworthy products. We reviewed their Infinity cable which takes advantage of a reversible magnetic connection to fast-charge and sync all your devices.

One cable, multiple magnetic tips — this is Chargeasap’s versatile Infinity cable

They are also behind the Flash accessory, which is billed as the world’s most powerful and fastest-charging power bank rocking a 100-watt USB-C output. Powered by Tesla graphene batteries, the accessory can be recharged to 80 percent in just 35 minutes, which is about te times faster than other power banks available today.

We will be reviewing the Flash shortly.

Tell me about GaN tech

GaN, which stands for Gallium Nitride, is a transparent crystalline material that can be used as an alternative to the traditional silicon. GaN semiconductors are characterized by so-called band gap efficiency that allows for higher voltages while consuming less energy.

This has made GaN a great choice for producing efficient and compact chargers that use a single GaN component instead of multiple silicon parts. This allows the charger to be much smaller without affecting efficiency.

Several makers of chargers are taking advantage of GaN technology now, including Anker and Zendure and RAVPower.
