If you’re one of many who find the process of adding apps to folders on the iPhone’s Home Screen to be a cumbersome and tedious process, then we think you’re going to have a lot of fun with the likes of a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed AddToFolder by iOS developer AnthoPak.

As depicted in the screenshot examples above, AddToFolder does away with the traditional drag-and-drop gestures that you’d normally contend with when adding apps to folders and instead replaces them with a new option in the Home Screen-centric 3D Touch/Haptic Touch contextual menus for adding that particular app to an existing folder of your choice.

Apple’s own drag-and-drop gestures attempt to be intuitive, and they do work, but they tend to feel glitchy at times. For example, one might try to drag an app out of a folder and into a specific place on the Home Screen only to find themselves wrestling with the app to get it back out of a folder that it suddenly got dropped into. This may not happen to everyone, but there’s definitely room for improvement on Apple’s part.

AddToFolder effectively solves this problem by eliminating all drag-and-drop frustrations like the one mentioned above. Upon using a 3D Touch or Haptic Touch gesture on an app icon, a user only needs to tap on the Add to Folder option and then select the folder they want the app to be placed in. Once the selected folder is tapped, the app icon automatically moves to that folder. Easy!

Here’s a video demonstration from the developer, just in case you were curious about how it worked:

Once installed, AddToFolder adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle the tweak on or off on demand
  • Choose whether the AddToFolder option appears before or after the other menu items
  • Customize the Add to Folder option text

A respring is needed to save any changes you make to the options. A hidden respring button appears at the top right of the interface whenever you enable or disable the tweak.

Those interested in trying AddToFolder for themselves can download it for free from AnthoPak’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices.
