Quorra brings iOS 14’s privacy indicator dots to jailbroken iOS 13 devices

When iOS & iPadOS 14 are released this Fall, the software updates will introduce a bevy of useful new features to the iPhone and iPad platforms. Perhaps one of the most intriguing features that seemed to slip under the radar are the new privacy-centric indicator dots that appear the top of the display when an app or service begins accessing your handset’s camera, location, or microphone.

This particular feature was so highly sought after that even the Android community quickly developed a way to port this feature to their handsets. Unfortunately for those running iOS & iPadOS 13 or earlier, a similar solution wasn’t available – at least not until now, thanks to a new and free jailbreak tweak release dubbed Quorra by iOS developer Lightmann.

As shown in the screenshot examples above, Quorra displays the aforementioned dots at the top center of the display. The dots appear a certain color depending on what’s being used; for example, camera usage is denoted by a red dot, location usage is denoted by a green dot, and microphone usage is designated by a yellow dot.

While most people generally know when their handset’s hardware is being used by an app, user awareness is especially important today given just how easy it can be for apps or services to exploit user privacy in the background.

The developer tells us in the /r/jailbreak release post that the tweak will work on both notched and non-notched handsets, but it’s only officially supported on iOS & iPadOS 13. A notable perk is that the tweak doesn’t come with any complicated options to configure – it just begins working, right out of the box.

If you’re interested in trying Quorra out for yourself, then you can download the tweak for free from the BigBoss repository via your favorite package manager. Quorra is also open source on the developer’s GitHub page for anyone interested in learning more about how it works.
