Lock your handset’s current volume level with VolumeLock

It’s relatively easy to accidentally adjust your handset’s volume level when gripping your handset wrong in the midst of listening to music or watching a video. I’ve personally had this happen to me when enjoying videos late at night and trying to catch my iPhone before it fell off the side of my bed – the ensuing death grip resulted in instantaneous maximum volume, perhaps unsurprisingly waking up the entire household.

If you ever find yourself in similarly clumsy predicaments involving your handset’s volume level, then you’ll probably come to appreciate the likes of a free jailbreak tweak dubbed VolumeLock by iOS developer LacertosusDeus. Just as the name implies, this tweak lets you lock your current volume level with a simple gesture to prevent such mishaps from happening.

Once installed, you can simply press both the volume up and down buttons simultaneously to activate locked volume mode. You’ll feel a subtle vibration in the form of haptic feedback when you do this to confirm that the mode switch, and when locked volume mode is turned on, you won’t be able to change your volume level with the volume buttons regardless of how much you press them.

You will, however, feel subtle haptic feedback each time you press the volume buttons while locked volume mode is enabled, just to remind you that it’s turned on.

Likewise, you can disable locked volume mode by repeating the aforementioned gesture – simply pressing the volume up and down buttons simultaneously once more. Upon doing this, you’ll be able to change your volume level with the buttons again, just as you could before enabling locked volume mode.

One thing we noticed while testing VolumeLock is that you can still change the volume level with Control Center when locked volume mode is turned on… We aren’t certain if this was intentional or if it had slipped the developer’s mind, however it’s worth noting that using Control Center to adjust your volume level is a two-step process whereas using the volume buttons isn’t. That said, it’s a lot less likely that you’ll accidentally change your volume level via Control Center.

VolumeLock doesn’t come with any options to configure, and if you’re interested in trying the tweak out for yourself, then you can download it for free from the Packix repository via your favorite package manager. VolumeLock supports jailbroken iOS 10, 11, 12, and 13 devices.
