TranslatAR, Soothing Sounds, TL;DL, and other apps to check out this weekend

Apps of the week

In this week’s episode of our Apps of the Week roundup we have an augmented reality translator, an ambient noise-maker, and a podcast client geared towards listening to short snippets. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.

TranslatAR

Instantly translate objects and animals, simply by pointing your phone’s camera at them. Using augmented reality, TranslatAR can detect and translate objects into 100 languages. It’ll even give you the audible pronunciations to help you learn the language. I believe you get a handful of translations for free, and then you must upgrade to premium.

Soothing Sounds: Sleep & Focus

I know, ugh, another meditation app. But Soothing Sounds deserves a mention because it doesn’t have any tutorials, journaling or any other frills. It’s just a simple and beautiful ambient noise app. It has this super sharp interface that lets you pick between 30+ different nature and ambient sounds designed to help you focus, relax and get better sleep.

TL;DL: Too Long; Didn’t Listen

This isn’t your typical podcast client. While other apps like Overcast and Pocket Casts are aimed at helping you discover new podcasts and listen to full episodes, TL;DL wants to point you to specific snippets—the more valuable parts of longer conversations. They have a curated feed of bookmarks, and of course you can make and share your own.

Maze: path of light

This one is for all of you maze-heads out there. Play classic square mazes or discover a variety of unique ones like circular, triangular or hexagonal in this beautiful game. There are over 3,000 mazes to choose from, including a variety of odd ones like guitar and bunny shapes, and several game modes to try including time and move-restricted puzzles.

Emergent Fates

Personable characters, rich world history, and a thought-provoking storyline are combined with beautiful water-colored 2d graphics for an artistic and narrative experience, while multi-class leveling, turn-based battles and player-chosen skill development allow for deep customization. Give this one a go if you are looking for something unique this weekend.
