Shortmoji is the Swiss Army Knife keyboard that iOS never had

Those who do lot of typing on their iPhones, have a fairly sound argument for having dedicated text-editing buttons on your handset’s keyboard interface; likewise, those who do a lot of texting, may want easier access to Emojis. But what about those who do a lot of both?

For those stuck in the latter case, Shortmoji is a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer MiRO that combines the best of both worlds for avid typists and texters who do a lot of both on the same device.

As shown in the screenshot example above, Shortmoji frames all of its text-editing shortcuts and Emoji suggestions around the entire keyboard interface. It takes full advantage of the predictive space at the top and the unused empty space at the bottom to make way for all the new shortcuts.

If you’ve ever used popular tweaks like Barmoji and DockX before, then Shortmoji should look and feel a lot like a hybrid between the two. Shortmoji users, on the other hand, will find that this tweak is a lot more flexible thanks to an extensive preference pane that gets added to the Settings app after installation:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Shortmoji on or off on demand
  • Enable Shortmoji on the predictive bar
  • Choose between Emojis, Shortcuts, or Both for the predictive bar
  • Choose between horizontal or vertical scroll directions
  • Long-press to toggle Emojis or Shortcuts
  • Always show the predictive bar
  • Enable Shortmoji on the bottom bar
  • Choose between Emojis, Shortcuts, Both, and Both in full view for the bottom bar
  • Double tap on the Dictation button to toggle
  • Configure left, right, and bottom offset amounts

The developer provides a Respring button at the top-right of the preference pane to save all changes you make.

At first glance, and during initial testing, Shortmoji seems like an excellent addition to the iOS keyboard. Notably, it brings a ton of useful functionality to otherwise unused screen real estate that often gets overlooked by normal users, and upon using Shortmoji, you’ll be hard-pressed to want to go back to stock.

Those interested in trying Shortmoji can download the tweak for free from MiRO’s repository via any available package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices.
