Power users with jailbroken iPhones will love the new AppData tweak

Depending on how advanced of an iPhone or iPad user you are, you might find yourself wanting to do more than simply launch and use your apps. Maybe you have a curious mind and you fancy tinkering with stuff related to those apps, or perhaps you just desire an easier way to clear your apps’ caches on a regular basis.

Whatever you’re looking for in the world of advanced iPhone and iPad usage, chances are a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed AppData by iOS developer Fouad Raheb can help you get more out of using your handset’s Home Screen.

Perhaps the most telling feature of AppData is the ability to summon and interface that displays pertinent information about a particular app. In the screenshot example posted above, you’ll see that the AppData interface contains information including but not limited to:

  • The name and full name of that app
  • The version and size of that app
  • The cache size of that app
  • Badge information about that app
  • Container-centric bundle and data information relevant to that app
  • Group-centric information relevant to that app

As you might come to expect, tapping on the Clear Caches button clears the app’s cache, instantly dropping its influence on your handset’s storage space down to zero. Likewise, tapping on the Clear Badge button clears any notification badges that the app icon might have upon invoking the AppData interface. Notably, you can also copy the app’s bundle identifier to your clipboard to paste somewhere else by tapping on it.

Users can summon AppData one of two ways, including swiping up on the Home Screen icon in question or using a Haptic Touch gesture on an icon. If doing the latter, then the option looks something like this:

Once installed, AppData adds a preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Enable summoning AppData with an icon swipe-up gesture
  • Enable summoning AppData with a Haptic Touch gesture on the icon

Albeit not for everyone, AppData is a valuable tweak that can help some iPhone and iPad power users in getting the most out of their pwned device. Those interested in trying it can download it for free from Raheb’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
