Apple releases new resources for password manager apps to make even stronger passwords

Today is devoting a healthy amount of time to password manager apps, apparently, and Apple doesn’t want to miss the boat.

On Friday, Apple informed developers that it is releasing new resources for password manager apps. The company has created a brand new open source project that will help developers behind password manager apps collaborate in an effort to create strong passwords for users. These would be compatible with popular websites, according to the developer update.

With the new Password Manager Resources open source project, developers will be able to integrate website-specific requirements used by iCloud Keychain to create strong, and unique, passwords. Here’s how Apple describes it:

Apple has created a new open source project to help developers of password managers collaborate to create strong passwords that are compatible with popular websites. The Password Manager Resources open source project allows you to integrate website-specific requirements used by the iCloud Keychain password manager to generate strong, unique passwords. The project also contains collections of websites known to share a sign-in system, links to websites’ pages where users change passwords, and more.

The Password Manager Resources open source project is live now.

In related news, we reported earlier today that Dropbox is looking to jump into the password manager market, as the company is testing a brand new app on Android right now. As for iCloud Keychain, there are reports saying Apple is going to add some 1Password-like features to the service with iOS 14.
