Ares is the Siri interface you’ve always wanted on iPhone

Siri can be a useful way of accessing information both on-device and via the internet, but one thing that Apple could have made better is the virtual assistant’s user interface, which at the time of this writing, takes up the entire real estate of your iPhone’s display.

A newly released jailbreak tweak dubbed Ares by iOS developer Phoenix Dev aims to make the Siri interface substantially more compact by compressing its contents into a floating view tantamount to the size of the AirPods pairing interface.

In the screenshot examples above and below, you can discern just how much less space Ares takes versus iOS’ native Siri interface. For most search queries, it’s enough space to view what you’ve asked and an accompanying answer, but for more detailed queries, the developer added a grabber at the top of the Ares interface allowing users to expand the view for a nearly full-screen experience.

Still too much for you? No problem. Ares also incorporates a banner-style Siri mode if you demand an even more compact solution:

Once installed, Ares adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure the tweak and other Siri-related options:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Ares on or off on demand
  • Choose between a card or banner-style Siri interface
  • Enable or disable tap to edit in the card style
  • Enable or disable swipe down to dismiss in the card style
  • Enable or disable the swipe up expansion grabber in the card style
  • Choose whether the banner style appears at the top or bottom of the display

The developer includes a Respring button at the top-right of the preference pane to help you save any changes you make.

At first glance, we think that Ares is a gorgeous upgrade from the native Siri interface on iPhones and iPads. If you find yourself enjoying tweaks like CallBar XS and Scorpion for doing away with intrusive full-screen interfaces, then Ares will fit right alongside them in your tweak arsenal.

If you’re interested in giving Ares a try, then you can purchase it for $1.99 from the Dynastic Repo repository via your package manager of choice. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices. Please keep in mind that the developer only includes a limited 24-hour return policy if you decide that you don’t like it afterward.
