WatchBuddy is a persistent Apple Watch battery widget for your iPhone’s Lock screen

Jailbreakers that also don an Apple Watch may take an interest in a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed WatchBuddy by iOS developer paddycodes, as it can help users keep better track of their wearable’s battery level throughout the day.

As depicted in the screenshot example above, WatchBuddy puts a persistent Apple Watch battery widget on your iPhone’s Lock screen in a way that’s always visible, ensuring that you never neglect your Apple Watch’s battery again.

Unlike the Battery widget in Apple’s Today page, WatchBuddy never goes away. It always appears front-and-center on the Lock screen, just under the date and time. Since it’s not even so much as a swipe away when you wake your device, it becomes impossible to miss, and you’ll always know if your Apple Watch needs a charge or not, even if you forget to swipe over to the Today page.

Once installed, WatchBuddy adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a few different options:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle WatchBuddy on or off on demand
  • Enable or disable the percent level in the battery
  • Remove the background from the widget

The developer includes an Apply button at the top-right of the preference pane to help you save any changes you make.

Is WatchBuddy for everyone? Eh, I wouldn’t say that, but it’s definitely useful depending on the type of watch face you’re using. Several of watchOS’s native watch faces incorporate battery Complications that you can easily glance at throughout the day, but one of my favorites, the California watch face, lacks this luxury.

If you use the California watch face, or you simply don’t keep a battery level Complication on another watch face of your choosing, then WatchBuddy could potentially come in handy. It may also be useful if you’re too lazy to swipe over to the Today page or if you aren’t wearing your Apple Watch and have no way to glance at it.

If you’re an Apple Watch user and sport a jailbroken iPhone, then you can download WatchBuddy for free from paddycodes’ repository via your preferred package manager. Those who aren’t already using paddycodes’ repository can add it to their preferred package manager via the following URL:
