Microsoft updates Remote Desktop Mobile with iPadOS mouse and trackpad support

If you need to control your Windows PC desktop or server with Microsft’s Remote Desktop Mobile app for iPhone and iPad, you can now do so with proper mouse and trackpad support.

According to Microsoft’s release notes, Remote Desktop Mobile for iOS has been updated with mouse and trackpad support on iPhone and iPad. If you’re on iPadOS 13.4 or later, you now can control the remote session on your iPad more naturally with your mouse or trackpad.

The software includes support for Apple’s second-generation Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. The trackpad’s tap-to-click feature is supported, too, and you can even use non-Apple external mice. Here are the actions that are supported on Apple’s Magic accessories:

Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2

  • Left click
  • Left drag
  • Right click
  • Right drag
  • Horizontal scrolling
  • Vertical scrolling
  • Local zooming

External mice

  • Left click
  • Left drag
  • Right click
  • Right drag
  • Middle click
  • Vertical scrolling

Additionally, the app supports the Ctrl/Alt/Shift key states with mouse and trackpad clicks, which lets you do things like easily select multiple items or a range of items.

On top of that, the app’s Mouse Pointer mode has switched from the right-click gesture to its press-and-hold variant (not press-and-hold-and-release). If you’re using the app on your iPhone, you will even feel some nice haptic feedback when performing the right-click mouse gesture.

“And finally, we added support for the Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) Spring 2020 Update,” reads the changelog.
