Apple releases iOS 13.5.1, iPadOS 13.5.1, watchOS 6.2.6, and tvOS 13.4.6 with important security fixes [Updated]

Not long ago, Apple released iOS 13.5 to the public, along with the corresponding iPadOS 13.5.1 for iPad owners. And now it’s time for another software update.

Apple on Monday officially released iOS and iPadOS 13.5.1 to the public. As the number scheme suggests, this is a minor update in the grand scheme of things. At the time of publication it’s unknown just what the new software brings to iOS and iPadOS devices, but it is safe to assume the new software will focus primarily on behind-the-scenes improvements and fixes.

Apple does say the new software includes “important security updates”, however, so updating soon may be worthwhile.

The new software is free to download and install. If you have automatic updates switched on your device(s) will automatically install the new software when your device is plugged in. If you do not, iOS and iPadOS users can open Settings –> General –> Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions to update your device.

At the same time, Apple also released new software for the HomePod, bumping that version number to 13.4.6. The HomePod will update automatically.

To update to the newest version of watchOS, the Apple Watch must be connected to the iPhone, must be on its charger, and have at least 50% battery life. To update manually, open the Watch app, select General –> Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions.

As soon as we know what, exactly, Apple added to the mix with this latest version of iOS and watchOS, we will update this post accordingly.

Update #1 (06/01/2020)Apple on Monday also released tvOS 13.4.6 for the fourth- and fifth-generation Apple TV set-top boxes. Folks who have automatic updates switched on will get the new software downloaded and installed automatically soon. Meanwhile, to manually update, owners need to open System –> Software Update and follow the instructions to get the newest software installed.

As far as what’s new, that remains to be seen. This will likely focus on behind-the-scenes general improvements.

Update #2 (06/01/2020)Apple has updated its official security page to reflect the changes made in iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1. This update does indeed patch the vulnerability used by the Unc0ver jailbreak. As such, it’s worth saying that folks who have jailbroken their devices should avoid this update:
