In this week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup, we have an app that makes it easier to discover classical tracks in Apple Music, a new Podcast client with a focus on privacy, and a handy tool for translating words on the go. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.
Classical
Here is an interesting app for Apple Music users that happen to like classical music. It’s aptly named Classical, and it helps you discover composers and their works. Yes, the interface is a little rough, but I like the idea of an app helping you sort through the noise of the Music app and bringing you closer to a niche genre.
LSTN
I know, the last thing we need is another podcast app. But LSTN is unique in that it focuses on discoverability and privacy. The developers say the app doesn’t keep any user info and your listening data is stored on locally. Oh, and all recommendations are based on real ratings and reviews by real people, not algorithms.
Graspp: translate with a finger
Here’s an innovative app called Graspp that, as the title suggests, allows you to define and translate words using just your finger. Just point your finger at a word (in any text) and then your phone’s camera at your finger. The definition/translation happens in real time, and you can store words for later study. Still in beta-ish form.
Clock Smith
Clock Smith helps you train your memorization skills and improve your short term memory by forcing you to remember combinations to unlock this beautiful mechanical clock. I know this isn’t your typical game, but I like the idea of a game helping with self improvement. It makes playing the game feel like less of a waste of time.
Super Fowlst 2
If you don’t care about self improvement and just want to arcade it, check out Super Fowlst 2. This sequel in the popular Fowlst franchise allows you to squash the bad guys, dodge danger and strike it rich. Features include simple 3-touch game controls, controller support, unlockable characters, huge explosions and more.
