Unc0ver jailbreak v5.0.0 teased with support for every device running iOS 13.5

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from the unc0ver Team; in fact, the last time the tool was even updated was at the beginning of March. But that silence was broken Wednesday evening when the unc0ver Team teased the imminent release of unc0ver v5.0.0, which purportedly adds support for all devices running Apple’s freshly released iOS 13.5.

The particularly exciting announcement was shared via by the unc0ver Team on Twitter at approximately 8:08 P.M. Eastern time, and was quickly Retweeted by unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd:

From what we can gather, unc0ver’s new firmware and device support comes by way of a powerful 0day kernel vulnerability from Pwn20wnd. But the plot thickens, as the Tweet goes on to explain that this is newfangled support has been sponsored by the third-party smartphone case brand Rebel, which has close ties with renowned YouTuber EverythingApplePro.

Given the circumstances, it’s not surprising that this version of unc0ver will have some branding stamped into it:

Since iOS 13.5 is currently the newest available firmware from Apple, it may come as no surprise to anyone that the unc0ver Team has recommended updating your device(s) to iOS 13.5 so that you can enjoy a jailbreak on the latest firmware, complete with all the latest bug fixes and new features. The best way to go about this is with a full DFU restore to the latest version of iOS, as this helps ensure that you get a corruption-free update.

It’s also worth reiterating that this upcoming unc0ver update should work on all devices that run iOS 13.5, including Apple’s latest iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max variants. Older handsets ranging from the iPhone 5s to the iPhone X can still be jailbroken on iOS 13.5 via checkra1n, however, since the checkm8 bootrom exploit that powers it can’t be patched with a mere software update.

The unc0ver Team has already updated the official unc0ver.dev web page with a progress bar denoting what’s happening behind the scenes, and at the time of this writing, it’s hovering at approximately 90% completion with the tool currently undergoing final internal stability tests. There’s no telling when the update could drop, but the release certainly seems imminent given the circumstances and percentage shown.

Wednesday’s news is nothing short of a miraculous surprise, but it’s certainly refreshing given just how quickly Apple seems to patch jailbreaks with software updates. This should at least give folks an opportunity to jailbreak again if they’ve missed any opportunities in the past.
