Apple launches two new Pride-themed Apple Watch bands in support for LGBTQ community

Pride month is observed every June and like in the past few years, the iPhone maker is acknowledging the celebration with a pair of new Pride Edition bands for the Apple Watch.

The new bands have a familiar vertical-stripe rainbow design, with the Sport Band being “reimagined with the colors of the rainbow,” according to the announcement Monday.

“This year’s artfully unique Pride Edition Sport Band is joined for the first time by the new Apple Watch Nike Pride Edition Sport Band,” Apple wrote. The new bands are designed to pair nicely with a pair of new matching Pride watch faces coming soon as a part of watchOS 6.2.5.

Both the Pride Edition Sport Band and to the Pride Edition Nike Sport Band are available today from apple.com, the Apple Store app and Apple stores around the world.

Apple says the Pride Edition Sport Band is assembled by hand from individual strips of colored fluoroelastomer. “The strips are then machine die-cut and compression molded together,” reads the Apple Store description.

This process results in subtle variations in the wavy rainbow design, making each band artfully unique. Durable and strong, yet surprisingly soft, the band drapes elegantly across your wrist and feels comfortable next to your skin. An innovative pin-and-tuck closure ensures a clean fit.

Similar to this year’s WWDC and a bunch of other technology, sporting and other events, this year’s Pride will be all-virtual due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and COVID-19 pandemic.

With the annual Apple Watch Pride Edition band and face collection, both Apple and Nike support LGBTQ organizations doing vital advocacy and community-building worldwide, including GLSEN, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, Gender Spectrum, The National Center for Transgender Equality and ILGA World.
