A much faster Apple TV is “ready to ship,” claims a prolific leaker

We could be in for another Apple production introduction soon, and this time around the Cupertino company is predicted to release an updated Apple TV model featuring the company’s fast A12X Bionic processor that debuted in the 2018 iPad Pro.

According to prolific leaker Jon Prosser, the next Apple TV will also double the storage from the current 32/64GB offering to the 64/128GB storage tiers. The device is apparently “ready to ship,” Prosser wrote in a tweet. Unfortunately, he did not divulge any specifics so we’re currently unsure whether that means that the updated model release is imminent or not.

For guidance, the Apple TV 4K debuted in September 2017.

Proser previously predicted the iPhone SE launch date accurately. Earlier in the week, the leaker made claims that updated iMac models and AirPods refreshes for 2020 were “ready to ship.”

Prosser on his part said he’d report back when he learns about a potential release date. Considering several Apple products got updated just recently, the next Apple TV should probably drop later this month, ahead of the virtual WWDC 2020 which kicks off June 22.

Although the current Apple TV 4K model runs the 2017 A10 Fusion chip from the iPhone 7 family, which provides enough oomph to render 4K HDR video, the refreshed model should — and I’m only making an educated guess here — harness the power of the A12X Bionic chip to not only bring more processing and graphics power for demanding Apple Arcade games, but also to accelerate machine learning in Apple TV apps similar to apps for the iPhone and iPad.

In other Apple TV news, Twitter leaker @L0vetodream claimed recently that Apple was developing a game controller for iOS, tvOS and macOS that should release later this year or next year. Another rumor has it that the next Apple TV model could use a brand new remote replacing the Siri Remote which has been a point of contention for many users.

On top of that, the rumor-mill is calling for several new features in the tvOS 14 update, including Screen Time and a new Kiosk Mode for kids.
