NBC’s Peacock streaming service will be available on Apple devices at launch, support the Apple TV app

We’ve been hearing about Peacock, NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service, for quite some time now. And the service actually launched for some Comcast customers back in March. But the wide rollout won’t happen until July.

And today NBC has announced what we already expected would be the case: Peacock will be available across Apple’s lineup of devices on day one. That includes the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod touch, the Apple TV HD and the Apple TV 4K. The service will launch to the public on July 15, 2020. When it does, there will be three tiers to choose from:

  • Free tier will include over 7,500 hours of content, which will have advertisements
  • Peacock Premium is $4.99 per month, will offer more than 15,000 hours of content, but will also have ads
  • Peacock Premium (ad-free) costs $9.99 per month, offers more than 15,000 hours of content and no ads

In addition to being available on Apple’s devices, Peacock will be fully integrated into the Apple TV app. That means users will be able to add content to the Watch Now and Up Next sections, making it quick and easy to keep tabs on the next episode to watch in a series. And Peacock customers will be able to sign up for the service’s free option right within the app, or upgrade to the per-month costly options through the app as well.

Our priority is to bring Peacock’s unrivaled collection of content to people across major distributors and device platforms,” said Matt Bond, Chairman, Content Distribution, NBCUniversal. “We look forward to bringing Peacock to Apple customers when we launch around the U.S. in July, capitalizing on Apple’s incredible reach and connecting with millions of viewers across their devices.

There will also be a reboot of Battlestar Galactica on Peacock at some point in the future.

Across NBCUniversal, millions of fans are consuming our content on Apple devices every day and we are thrilled to be introducing Peacock to those audiences,” said Maggie McLean Suniewick, President, Business Development and Partnerships, Peacock. “Apple will be a key launch platform for Peacock.
