Looking for a quick and exciting way to spice up your iPhoneâs boring Settings app? If you like where this is going so far, then youâre probably going to enjoy a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed SettingsWidgets by iOS developer shepgoba.
Just as the tweakâs name implies, SettingsWidgets brings a few useful widgets to the Settings appâs user interface, giving you a quick glance at some of your handsetâs pertinent information, such as battery information, storage space usage, and Wi-Fi statistics, among other things.
In the screenshot examples above, you can see the two default widgets (battery and storage usage) in both the dark and light mode flavors. The battery widget is designed to tell you more about your batteryâs health by displaying its maximum capacity, while the storage widget is designed to give you an overview of how much storage space youâve used compared with what you have left.
And for those curious about the Wi-Fi widget, the screenshot below gives you a glimpse at what it looks like. It basically gives you a summary of what network youâre connected to and your current local IP address (useful for referencing for SSH if you ever need to do that):
Perhaps unsurprisingly, SettingsWidgets adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a number of options to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle SettingsWidgets on or off on demand
- Enable a transparent background effect for the widgets
- Configure a custom widget height
- Choose the first widget (battery, storage, or Wi-Fi)
- Choose the second widget
The developer includes an âApplyâ button at the top-right of the preference pane to help you save any changes you make.
Itâs unfortunate that you can only use two of the three widgets and have to choose between them at any given time, but we hope this is something that might change in the future as more widgets are added. That aside, Iâm impressed with the quality of the interface and the first batch of widgets thus far.
Those interested in trying SettingsWidgets for themselves can download the tweak for free from shepgobaâs repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices and is open source on the developerâs GitHub page for those who might want to learn about how it works.
