New Care reaction launches on Facebook and Messenger during COVID-19 crisis

Facebook customers will soon be able to take advantage of a new Care reaction for posts, comments, media and so forth to better express support during the coronavirus crisis.

Facebook in February 2016 implemented six reactions available by tapping and holding the Like button: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry. And now, a seventh reaction is coming alongside the existing six: they’re calling it Care and it looks like a face hugging a heart.

Like with other existing reactions, the new Care reaction can be used on posts, comments, images, videos or other content on the mobile app and on the web. According to Facebook’s comms person Alexandru Voica, the new Care reaction will start rolling out next week globally.

On Messenger, the Care reaction looks different, it’s a beating purple heart.

To apply this reaction, long-tap the existing Heart reaction in the Messenger app to switch to a beating purple heart. To change it back, press and hold the new Care reaction again.

The new Care reaction is a way for Facebook users to share their support with one another during the coronavirus pandemic that has paralyzed much of the world.

Will you be using it in your messaging?
