Lady Gaga makes an impromptu FaceTime call to Tim Cook on “The Tonight Show”

Tim Cook joined Jimmy Fallon and Lady Gaga via FaceTime on “The Tonight Show” to confirm Apple will donate to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Lady Gaga started off by saying that they all appreciate everything Apple’s done already to support COVID-19. She wanted to know whether Cook still stood by his commitment to make a “quite sizable” donation to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

“I just wanted to make sure we’re OK on that,” she said via FaceTime, to which Cook responded by saying “You can confirm me,” adding that Apple is “so proud to be a part of this.”

Apple will donate $10 million to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Cook’s confirmed, and that’s in addition to the company’s previous donations to global COVID-19 relief efforts.

The World Health Organization along with the Global Citizen organization is organizing a virtual benefit concert, titled “One World: Together At Home”, which will be live-streamed by several Silicon Valley technology giants, including Apple.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, the Cupertino technology giant will support indie labels on Apple Music with the new $50 million Royalty Advance Fund.

Additionally, Apple’s dedication to help fight the coronavirus pandemic extends to addressing worldwide shortages of face masks — the company’s design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers in the US and Europe.

According to Cook, Apple’s sourced more than 20 million masks via its supply chain.
