Based on the latest survey, a lot of teenagers in the United States own an iPhone. And good news for Apple: even more say they plan on buying an iPhone as their next phone.

That’s based on Piper Sandler’s semiannual “Taking Stock With Teens“, which took results from 5,200 teens in the United States. The survey covers a lot of ground, including learning about how teens feel about the economy in general, what’s the number one priority for spending money, and even their outlook on the environment and critical issues like the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. But, of course, we’re focusing on the iPhone here.

According to Piper Sandler, 85% of teens currently own an iPhone. What’s more, the survey shows that 88% of U.S. teens intend on making an iPhone their next phone. These are all-time highs for iPhone ownership based on Piper Sandler’s survey data.

Today’s teens are more connected than ever before—they spend an average of 12 hours on social media per week, 53% name Amazon as their top e-commerce site, Netflix is their go-to choice for daily content & 85% own an iPhone. As it relates to brand preferences, we continue to see casualization of fashion march higher—Nike gained share as the No. 1 brand & lululemon hit a new survey high as the No. 6 preferred brand.

Compare iPhone ownership to last year’s survey, when it was revealed that 83 percent of teens owned an iPhone then, and 86 percent intended to make an iPhone their next device. And it’s also worth noting that Piper Sandler’s survey sees the majority of its respondents in higher-income brackets (median incomes were $65,600). The average range of respondents was 16 years of age.

More than 50 percent of U.S. teens own AirPods, and 18% of teens say they plan on buying a pair of Apple’s truly wireless headphones within the next year.
