Yesterday brought us images suggesting that Apple’s next iPhone refresh may pick up a LiDAR scanner out the back, and now a newly leaked image this morning suggests that the upcoming device might also feature a smaller notch than the current iPhone 11 generation.
The leaked image, sourced from the account claimed to be operated by a former Apple Authorized Service Partner, which has also provided leaks on Apple products in the past, suggests that the infamous notch will hang around for another year, only smaller.
Assuming the image is accurate, the iPhone 12 may feature a notch that’s approximately two-thirds the size of the current version found on the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11 families.

The picture also appears to back previous reports that the next iPhone might come outfitted with a LiDAR sensor which made its Apple debut on the recently launched 2020 iPad Pro.
As AppleInsider noted, it wasn’t immediately clear what the source is for the image.
“If accurate, the most probable sources would be internal design documents or draft service manuals, though this cannot be verified,” cautioned the publication. You can clearly see on the previously leaked image included above that the rear camera layout on the iPhone 12 will likely switch to a four-sensor layout to accommodate the new LiDAR scanner.
Instead of having two cameras installed one over the other and then the third just off to the right, the cameras may take up the top-left, top-right and bottom-left corners in the square layout while the LiDAR scanner could be in the bottom-right corner.
The upcoming iPhones, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, should feature a bigger sensor and sensor stabilization. We’ve also heard that Apple may bring back a metal frame similar to what the company introduced with the iPhone 4 years ago.
All four new iPhone models due this year should use OLED displays: 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7 inches.
