Korean consumer electronics maker LG confirmed today that it will be rolling out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility to some of its models manufactured in 2018 via a software update that should release by October of this year, keeping true to its earlier promise.
According to a new support document on LG’s website, discovered Thursday morning by MacRumors, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support is indeed coming to LG’s LCD-based televisions with “SK” or “UK” in the name, as well as OLED models with “B8” through “Z8” in the name.
“AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will be rolled out with a software update in most countries, with exceptions being China, Iran, Sudan, Syria and Venezuela,” the report added.
That’s a notable change from LG’s earlier stance that it won’t bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to models manufactured before 2019 as it couldn’t guarantee a “seamless user experience”.

AirPlay 2 allows owners of supported LG TV sets to beam media from their iPhone, iPad or Mac without needing an Apple TV set-top box. And with HomeKit support, LG customers can control their smart home devices with Siri or in the Home app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
In February, LG said Dolby Atmos support would be added to the Apple TV app and the AirPlay 2 feature on its 2019 smart TVs later this year.
