SITUM lets you initiate a search engine query from anywhere in iOS

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re reading an article or website and want to know more about whatever it is you’re reading about, then you might feel fired up to launch a web browser and begin a search engine query by way of Google, DuckDuckGo, or another search engine of your choosing. But what if you didn’t need to bother opening another app to do this?

That’s the idea behind a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called SITUM by iOS developers R0wDrunner and MegaDev, and as you might’ve discerned for yourself in the screenshot examples above, this tweak lets you initiate a search engine query from virtually anywhere in iOS via the native Action Menu that appears when you begin highlighting a string of text.

In our example, we highlighted a bit of text from Apple’s website and invoked a Google search for that highlighted text. The tweak works anywhere in iOS, and you aren’t locked down to Google, which is great if you prefer more privacy-centric search engines like DuckDuckGo.

You’ll notice that the interface floats in the middle of the screen, and that you can easily close the interface with the ‘X’ button at the top-left, or open the web instance in a full-blown web browser with the Safari button at the top-right.

After you install SITUM, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you’ll be able to:

  • Toggle SITUM on or off on demand
  • Toggle the magnifying glass Emoji in the Action Menu
  • Choose between dark or light mode for the user interface
  • Choose your preferred search engine:
    • Google
    • DuckDuckGo
    • Start page
    • Eco said
  • Choose your preferred web browser interface:

At the top right of the preference pane, users will find a large check button ,and this is used to Respring. You’ll want to do this after making adjustments to the settings to ensure that they’re saved.

SITUM seems like a promising addition to any jailbroken iOS 13 device, and if you find yourself searching for things all the time, then you might find it useful even more so. The tweak is available as a free download from R0wDrunner’s personal repository.

If you’re not already using R0wDrunner’s repository, then you can add it to your package manager of choice with the following URL:
