Velox Reloaded brings widgets to the iPhone’s Home screen the right way

iOS has come a long way in recent years, especially in terms of widgets and information displays. But when compared with a lot of the smartphone competition on the market today, iOS (and even iPadOS) still lag behind.

Enter Velox Reloaded, a stunning new jailbreak tweak by ApexTweaks that introduces quirky system widgets with handy functionalities directly to your iPhone or iPad’s Home screen via the very same grid-space that you use to store application icons.

In the screenshot examples above, you might notice that Velox Reloaded uses the native app interfaces as widgets in most cases. For example, the Weather widget uses the animated Weather app background and shows a quick synopsis of the weather outside. The Clock app, on the other hand, displays an ornate watch with the current time.

If and when notifications are available for a specific app, Velox Reloaded can be configured to display those notifications as a widget instead if there is no native widget available for that app.

To enable a Velox widget for a supported app, merely use a 3D Touch or Haptic Touch gesture on the app icon in question, and you will find a new option in the contextual menu for Velox. Tapping on it gives you an interface where you can preview the Velox widget and choose one of three sizes for the widget:

To disable a Velox widget, just use the 3D Touch or Haptic Touch gesture on the widget in question, and you will find an option in the contextual menu to disable it:

For those interested, Velox Reloaded currently supports the following widgets:

  • FaceTime
  • Calendar
  • Photos
  • Phone (Favorites tab)
  • Files (Documents)
  • Apple Music
  • Settings
  • Notes
  • FotMob Pro (TodayScores)
  • TV
  • Reminders
  • Weather
  • Activity (Fitness)
  • Spotify
  • Watch
  • Clock
  • And more coming soon…

As the developers note in the tweak’s depiction, updates are planned for the near future that will introduce more than 20 additional custom widgets.

After you install Velox Reloaded, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your needs:

Here, you can:

  • Read a guide about using Velox Reloaded
  • Enable or disable Velox on demand
  • Disable app icon badges when widgets for a specific app are enabled
  • Push icons back to their original state after closing a widget
  • Disable widget visibility while scrolling your Home screen to conserve RAM
  • Enable or disable loading widgets after a respring
  • Reset Velox Reloaded to its default settings
  • Respring your device to save any changes you make

In my personal opinion, Velox Reloaded is a wonderful addition to any jailbroken device, and it just might be a deal-breaker for those looking for a good reason to jump aboard the jailbreak train.

Those interested in augmenting their newly jailbroken iOS 13 device will want to give Velox Reloaded a try. The tweak is available to purchase from the Chariz repository for $3.99 via your preferred package manager.
