Apple rumored to host media event on March 31, launch ‘iPhone 9’ on April 3

Apple is not shy when it comes to hosting events. And there has been one rumored for the beginning of 2020 for quite some time.

And now, yet again, we hear that the company may indeed be planning to gather people together for a special unveiling of a new device. This time around it’s the German site iPhone-Ticker chiming in, suggesting that Apple will host an event before the end of March, and the new device it announces at that event will go on sale at the beginning of April. According to the report, which cites sources directly related to Apple, the company will host the event on Tuesday, March 31.

At the event, the sources say that Apple is going to unveil the “iPhone 9” — or what has been commonly referred to as the “iPhone SE 2” for quite some time now. Following that unveiling, the report says Apple will turn around and launch the handset to the public on Friday, April 3. That’s quite the turnaround.

It’s not completely unheard of for Apple to hold a media event in March. Back in 2018, for example, the company promoted education and unveiled new iPad models. And then last year the company used its March event to take the curtain off its services like Apple Card and Apple Arcade. This year it sounds like the primary focus will be a new, albeit not a flagship, iPhone.

The iPhone 9/iPhone SE 2 — or whatever Apple decides to call it — is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s possible that March’s event, if it does indeed happen, could be packed with new devices. Just recently we heard from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple is planning to launch a wireless charging pad, high-end headphones, and even new MacBooks with the updated scissor switch keyboards (like the new 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced late last year). In addition to that, the oft-rumored Tile-like tracking device, rumored to be called AirTags, could be announced at the event, too. There may even be a new iPad Pro model that takes the stage.

Either way, if this Apple’s plan then we don’t have long to wait before things start falling into place and we get a better feel for what the company may unveil before the end of March.

Aside from the iPhone 9, what else are you hoping Apple announces next month?
