Siri not talking back to you? Try these fixes

You’ve been using Siri, your favorite digital assistant, for quite some time now, but suddenly Siri isn’t speaking back. You can hear other clicks and sounds on your device but long for Siri’s voice. Here are a few things you can check if Siri isn’t talking to you any longer.

1. Check your Siri voice feedback

The first thing you should check if Siri isn’t speaking to you anymore is its voice feedback setting. Here’s how to do that:

On iPhone and iPad

1) Open Settings and tap Siri & Search.

2) Select Siri Responses.

3) Choose Always. This ensures Siri will provide voice feedback even if your ring switch is turned off.

On Mac

If the trouble you’re having with Siri is on your Mac, here’s how to check the response feedback setting:

1) Open System Preferences with the icon in your Dock or Apple icon > System Preferences.

2) Choose Siri.

3) Make sure the radio button for Voice Feedback is On.

2. Adjust your Siri volume

Often it’s something as simple as the volume being set too low. And Siri’s volume can be adjusted separately from your current iPhone volume setting.

Access Siri and turn up the volume. You can see when you close Siri and adjust the volume on your Home Screen and then go back and check the volume on the Siri screen; they are set differently.

3. Restart your iPhone or Mac

Sometimes Siri may not speak the answer due to some temporary glitches. To fix this, turn off your iPhone and turn it back on. On Mac, click the Apple icon from the top left and choose Restart.

4. Disable and re-enable Siri

Finally, if nothing works, follow these steps to turn off Siri and turn it back on.

On iPhone and iPad

1) Go to Settings and tap Siri & Search.

2) Turn off the toggles for Press Side Button (or Home) for Siri and Listen for “Hey Siri” > Turn Off Siri.
