Microsoft revamps the Office apps on iPhone, adds new features

Microsoft today issued updates to the mobile Word, Excel and PowerPoint software bringing new features and a fresh coat of paint to theseĀ iOS productivity apps.

Bumped to version 2.34, the Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for the iPhone and iPad have been redesigned from scratch. Although you may notice a drastic departure from the previous design, there are plenty of subtle changes that the Windows maker says were made to these apps to be simpler, faster and “more beautiful than before”.

Namely, three new tabs on iPhone ā€” Home, New and Open.

  • Home:Ā Your Microsoft account, recent documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • New: Create a new document from scratch or choose a template.
  • Open: Open an existing file stored on your iPhone, in the Files app or on a cloud service.

Moreover, all three apps have gained an overhauled Alt Text pane for adding captions to make content more accessible or mark elements as decorative. On top of that, Excel 2.34 for iOS has brought out XLOOKUP which lets you find anything you need in a table or range, row by row.
