Customize your iPhone’s ringer/silent switch sound and vibration with MuteVibes

One thing the iPhone still has that many other smartphones don’t is a physical ringer/silent switch that can be used to immediately silence your handset from right inside of your pocket.

The iPhone’s physics ringer/silent switch is still one of our favorite things about the Apple-branded handset. But if you’re jailbroken, then you may want to turn your attention to a new and free jailbreak tweak called MuteVibes by iOS developer Ethan Whited, as it can be used to customize the sound and vibration behavior of the ringer/silent switch.

MuteVibes works by allowing users to customize the vibration pattern that transpires when the iPhone is switched to silent mode, and likewise, they can customize the sound that plays when the iPhone is switched to ring mode.

After you install MuteVibes, you will find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle MuteVibes on or off on demand
  • Choose a vibration setting for when switching your iPhone to silent mode:
    • Light
    • Hard
    • Rapid
    • Long
    • None
  • Choose a sound setting for when switching your iPhone to ring mode:
    • Tada
    • Dudu
    • Shake
    • Boop
    • None

The developer includes a Respring button at the top right of the preference pane. Respringing isn’t necessary if you’re only changing sounds or vibrations, but it is necessary to save your changes if you’re toggling the tweak on or off.

MuteVibes can’t be explained by mere screenshots alone because it literally changes the device’s audible and tactile behavior. With that in mind, this is something that you’ll have to try for yourself to fully appreciate.

Those interested in trying MuteVibes can download the tweak for free from the Twickd repository in their preferred package manage. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 12, 13, and 14 devices.
