The Apple Watch credited for detecting owner’s heart abnormality

The Apple Watch can do a lot of things, like tell the time, and also catch heart abnormalities. A real Jack of all trades, you might say.

Ever since Apple started introducing new health-related features into the smartwatch, the device has been credited over and over again with detecting a range of issues. Especially related to the heart. And that’s the case this week, too, as reported by local Kentucky affiliate news agency WHAS11.

The report says that Rosemary Stiles was gifted an Apple Watch for her birthday, meant to be used as a communication tool to keep up with her kids. However, it did not take long before the Apple Watch was detecting a heart abnormality. She fell asleep in a chair and the smartwatch sent a notification letting her know that something was wrong.

I just fell asleep in my chair and my watch vibrated. When I looked at it, it said that it had detected A-Fib and I needed to see a doctor.

Stiles added that she’d been feeling tired more often than not, saying that she could only get a few things done in the morning before having to sit down again and rest.

Atrial Fibrillation is the most common heart irregularities. It’s detailed as an issue that causes signals to fire off abnormally, which can make the top of the heart not squeeze as it normally should.

It’s great that the Apple Watch was able to help. Especially with as common as these stories are these days.
