R.J. Cutler and Apple TV+ working on a docuseries called ‘Dear…’ inspired by Apple’s ‘Dear Apple’ spots

It’s been a busy day for Apple TV+, and the news isn’t quite finished apparently, as yet another docuseries is heading to the streaming platform.

Today, Apple has officially announced a new docuseries entitled Dear…, which will be executive produced by R.J. Cutler (The September Issue), who has previously won both Emmy and Peabody awards. The announcement says the new series will premiere “this spring” on Apple TV+, but there isn’t a specific launch date announced yet.

Inspired by Apple’s groundbreaking “Dear Apple” spots, “Dear…” takes an inventive and cinematic approach to biographies of the most iconic figures in society today by using letters written by those whose lives have been changed through their work. The 10-episode series will profile internationally recognized leaders including Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Yara Shahidi, Stevie Wonder, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland, Big Bird and more.

Todd Lubin, Jay Peterson, Jane Cha, and Lyle Gamm will all be serving as executive producers alongside Cutler.

There isn’t much else to go on here, but from the sounds of it this will be an interesting project to check out this spring. If for no other reason than to see Big Bird profiled in one of the episodes.

Here’s a “Dear Apple” piece to go off of, though. This one focusing on the Apple Watch:

In related news, Apple recently struck a deal with Julia Louis-Dreyfus (SeinfeldVeep) for exclusive content, and Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) will be narrating an upcoming Earth Day animated short film this year.
