Apple now selling rack mountable Mac Pro starting at $6,499

The Mac Pro launched before the end of 2019, but the rack mountable option was not available at launch.

Apple has alleviated that problem, though, as the company has just launched the additional option today. You’ll still be spending a lot of money to make this machine yours, though, as the cost starts at $6,499. That price point comes with the following specs right out of the box: 3.5GHz 8-core Intel Xeon W processor, with Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz; 32GB of DDR4 ECC memory; Radeon Pro 580X with 8GB of GDDR5 memory; 256GB SSD; rack mounting rails (ships in a separate box); Magic Mouse 2; and Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad.

So, hypothetically, what would it cost to get a fully decked-out rack mounted Mac Pro? That would be $54,048.00 without Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X. If you want to add that software to the mix, too, you’d jack up the price to a whopping $54,547.98.

That’s a lot!

But there’s no doubt that the new Mac Pro is a powerful machine for specific use cases, and we’ve already seen what one studio can do with that power.

At the time of publication, pickup at an Apple Store does not appear to be available. You’ll need to get it shipped if you want to buy one. According to the site, if you order the base model today the package will arrive between January 23 and January 30 with free delivery.
