Kuo: Apple to shuffle suppliers of some of its products in 2020

A revered analyst believes Apple will make several changes to suppliers of its products in 2020.

According to a new TF International Securities research note by trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, seen by MacRumors, the next Apple Watch along with the iPod touch media player and the new noise-cancelling AirPods Pro earbuds will be getting new suppliers in 2020.

  • AirPods Pro: Chinese company Goertek should be assembling the new AirPods Pro throughout the first half of 2020, with Luxshare Precision jumping in to improve supply.
  • Apple Watch Series 6: Luxshare will replace Quanta Computer as the exclusive manufacturer and supplier of S-series chips for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 6.
  • iPod touch: China’s BYD Electronic should replace Quanta Computer as the sole assembler of the iPod touch media player in 2020. The company may also obtain “at least 10-20 percent” of non-cellular iPad orders.

Apple may be making the aforementioned changes in order to reduce exposure to any single supplier and squeeze out better terms from its existing product assemblers.
