Apple to hold a one-day shopping event in Japan on January 2

Apple Japan announced on its website earlier this week that it will be holding a one-day shopping event in the country on Thursday, January 2.

According to the announcement, purchasing an eligible product on that day will net the customer an Apple Store gift card for up to 24,000 yen, which works out to about $220.

Not unlike Apple’s Black Friday promotions in the United States and elsewhere, this one-day shopping event will be available through Apple’s official brick and mortar and online stores in the country, as well as via the official Apple Store shopping app in Japan.

No details were provided at post time in terms of specific products that will be eligible for this promotion, but we’ll make sure to update this post when we discovered additional details. As a general rule, Apple’s current device models do not qualify for the upcoming shopping event.

For example, the 2018 promotion included Apple Store gift cards between ¥3,000 and ¥24,000 for select iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Beats models devices.

Unlike China which follows the lunar calendar, Japan’s New Year starts on January 1 as the country adopted the solar Western calendar about 150 years ago. New Year is a pretty special holiday in the country with the vast majority of office workers getting a week off or even more.
