Apple Pro Display XDR with nano-texture glass requires special cleaning cloth

Pro Display XDR

The nano-etched version of Apple’s Pro Display XDR requires a special cleaning cloth that only comes from Apple, according to a newly-published Apple support document.

The 32-inch Pro Display XDR sports 6K resolution and performance characteristics to rival many studio reference monitors that cost much more. Apple’s created the new display to cater to film and video pros and others looking for the most brilliant, life-like color and contrast possible.

The nano-texture glass sports nanometer-level etching that Apple says provides matte-like optical effects without the reduction in contrast and some of the side effects of conventional matte glass. That finish adds $1,000 to the price of the display, raising it to $5,999.

MacRumors notes that Apple has posted a new support document describing how to clean the new display.

Use only the dry polishing cloth that comes with your display to wipe dust or smudges off the screen. Don’t add water or use other liquids to clean the nano-texture glass.

Apple insists that the dry polishing cloth included with the display is the only one that should be used.

Apple isn’t as picky about the base Pro Display XDR, which you’re welcome to clean using a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
